Final Week Fun!
We had a fun last week of kindergarten...talent show, ice cream party at Mrs. Brockhaus', field day, and awards ceremony!
The Three Little Pigs & Butterflies
We finished up our "Three Little Pig" stories and started learning about "Caterpillars & Butterflies". We also had our 4th quarter positive behavior assembly with 3 bounce houses and had our Celebration of Learning. We hope that you enjoyed our program.
Our Concert & Farm Fun
Enjoy the photos from our kindergarten music program and from our trip to Gifford Farm. Thanks parents for being our biggest fans at the concert and for joining us at the park for lunch.
Under the Sea
We are learning about the oceans of the world. We started with learning about ocean water, the ocean floor, and now we're working on all sorts of ocean animals. We are learning all sorts of interesting facts.
"Egg" citing Times in Kindergarten
Our learning centered around eggs this week. We read about animals that come from eggs, watched a movie on the development of a chick inside and egg, cooked eggs and did all sorts of math stations with eggs.
Pirate Adventures
We sailed the high seas this week learning about pirates. We built a pirate ship, made pirate hats and spyglasses, and created treasure maps. Fortunately, we did more reading and creating than plundering!
Leprechaun Mischief
We had a super fun week trying to catch leprechauns. While we weren't successful in getting a leprechaun or any gold, we did a lot of problem solving, investigating, recording information, and creating! We were a highly motivated class!
Dr. Seuss & Colors
We celebrated Read Across America with Dr Seuss, school-wide dress up days, a door decoating contest, stories, and art projects. We also started our theme "Colors". We learned about primary colors, mixed colors, made rainbows, and created a rainbow book.
The Solar System
We started our unit on "Objects in the Sky". We read informational books about astronauts and space shuttles and brainstormed the things that we would need for a Space Center. After brainstorming, we divided up all of the jobs and got busy. We also created a mural of the solar system on 2 walls of our classroom. Next we will be researching the sun, moon, and planets in our solar system.
Presidents & Valentine Party
We spent our short week learning about presidents, the White House, and fun facts about presidential pets. Thanks Parents for a fun Valentine Party!!
Dental Health and Money
We learned about ways to keep our teeth healthy, and we began learning about $. We are practicing identifying coins and the value of each.
Valentines and Groundhogs
We made Valentine creatures and people from hearts. We also graphed Valentine hearts and learned a Valentine song. We learned about Groundhog Day and shadows. Thursday, we braved the cold temperatures to view our shadows at 8:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 2:45 pm. We were amazed to find that our shadows changed and moved even though we were in the same spot and didn't grow or shrink! Finally we made our own Groundhog Day predictions.
Fun With 100
We worked hard for 100 days so Mr. Kauk let us celebrate! We jumped though a giant 100, read stories about 100 ants and 100 chicks. We brought in 100 things for collages, did 100 exercises, were quiet for 100 seconds, colored 100 things, AND finally met Zero the Hero...He's 100 years old, lives in Zeroland, and loves the number zero.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We learned about the life and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We made a class mural and shared our dreams to make the world a better place.
Wonderful Winter
We had fun with penguins, ice, snow, igloos, and other winter things. We also completed over 90 days of school. Zero the Hero painted our "K" Kids Rock t-shirts and wants us to wear them when he?/she? visits on the 100th day of school. We hope that everyone is healthy by the 100th day of school. The flu was tough on the "K" Kids this week.

Holiday Celebrations
We visited Sweden, England, and the Ukraine this week. We read The Mitten by Jan Brett and acted it out. Ask your favorite "K" Kid to share their mitten and animals. They can retell the story for you. We painted snowmen for our January Countdown, and finally we had our "Around the World" Christmas Celebration with "Pass the Parcel", the pinata game, and gingerbread houses.
Good Luck, Miss Valentine!
We celebrated Miss Valentine's last day with us. She'll be dearly missed. Miss Valentine will student teaching at Bellevue Elementary next semester.
A Few More Holiday Celebrations
This week our travels took us to Mexico to learn about pinatas, poinsettias, and posadas. We also set of to Israel to learn about Hanukkah. We made stars, menorahs, and played dreidel. Finally, we set out for Africa to learn about Kwanzaa. While learning about Africa, we made kinaraas and weaved Kwanzaa mats.
More Holidays
We continued our Holiday studies with another trip to Germany. We made gingerbread cookies and read more about the gingerbread man. We also visited Italy to learn about La Befana, Holland to learn about Sinterklaas and France to learn that Noel is Christmas in French.
Holidays Around the World
We made passports and traveled to Germany where we learned about Advent Calendars, Tannenbaums, and The Gingerbread Man. We also wrote our letters to Santa and made holiday cards for our military servicemen/women.
Happy Thanksgiving!
We had a quick week to celebrate Thanksgiving...we made pilgrim hats, practiced color words, organized the turkeys, and made Thanksgiving placemats.
Food/Nutrition
Fruit salad, vegetable soup, homemade butter, homemade rolls, and ice cream...It was a tasty week in kindergarten! We cooked and tasted each day.
Families
For family week we read lots of stories about families. There are all different sizes of families and our families are all different, but each one is special. We graphed the number of siblings in each family, made a book of family memories, and shared fun things that we do with our grandparents. This page also has pictures from "Bear"y Special Time family visits. We'll be adding throughout the year.
The Human Body
We learned about the Human Body and how to keep our bodies healthy.
Pumpkin Fun
We estimated, weighed, predicted, decorated, and carved pumpkins. We worked as a class and with 4th grade buddies.
Night
We learned about nocturnal animals...bats and owls. We also had a Pajama & Popcorn Party because that's what kids do at night!
Monkey Fun
We had bunches of Monkey Fun. We did the poem/song "Five Little Monkeys" and made monkey pictures to illustrate the poem. We read "Naughty Little Monkeys" and made monkeys. The story of the week was "Caps for Sale". We acted out the story and retold the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
Water & Air
We were scientists this week and studied water and air. We did lots of experiments. We observed, predicted, tested, recorded our information and drew conclusions...sounds like grad school! We also learned about the water cycle and different states of matter. Check out the pictures and discuss them with your favorite "K" Kid...enjoy!
Fire Safety
Check out the picture of our fire safety week. We read about fire safety, brainstormed all that we needed to create a fire safety center, and created a fire safety center. Everyone did a different job to build a fire truck, a house on fire, and a 911 center.
Fall Fun
With the start of fall, we observed and compared real leaves. Then we painted fall leaves. We also read books about fall and autumn and all of the fun things that happen in fall. We read about pumpkins and scarecrows and created super cute scarecrows with our 6th grade buddies.
Amazing Apples
We used apples to weigh, measure, paint, graph, and cook! Click on the picture on the right to see all of the fun.
Fabulous 5 Senses
We spent the week learning about our 5 senses. We read books about our senses and used our senses to explore at center time.
Exploring Maps
We worked with maps this week. We sang songs about our world, the continents, and the 50 states. We learned our addresses, made a map of our state, and learned about the globe. Most of our earth is covered with water and water is blue on a map.
Wonderful Watermelon
We used our "Wonderful Watermelon" theme to work on syllables, rhyming, predicting, sink/float, and graphing.
Nursery Rhymes
We had a busy week with "Nursery Rhymes". We sang, danced, read, and created nursery rhyme art. Check out our pictures to see the fun!
Bears
Our first classroom theme was "Bears". We read and sang songs about bears, ate bear food (porridge), measured our bears, and lost them!
